See my TED talk for more about that (and check out this clip from Westworld to see our technology there). Outside of academia, I'm the co-founder and CEO of Neosensory, a company which addresses hearing problems and tinnitus via sensory substitution with a vibratory wristband. Funding for my research has come from NIH, NSF, DHHS, DARPA, Guggenheim Foundation, and several private foundations. Please see publications for our latest research results. My scientific interests are how the brain constructs perception, how different brains do so differently, and how this matters for society. Additionally, I have written the textbook ( Brain and Behavior) for the Cognitive Neuroscience course. You will know yourself better. At Stanford I teach courses on Brain Plasticity, Literature and the Brain, and The Brain and the Law. This book is just an absolute thrill and pleasure. It thrilled me with wonderment from the very beginning. And he is totally beguiling.ĭid you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? Well, the author is the reaer and so is all the characters. Which character – as performed by David Eagleman – was your favourite? It works well if you read books by popular neuroscientists like Oliver Sacks. What other book might you compare The Brain to, and why?

I also bought the printed version which has great pictures. I found the last chapter unexpectedly provocative, perplexing and exciting. Entirely accessible yet never feels dumbed down with a charismatic reading by the author, who clearly is deeply in love with his subject. What made the experience of listening to The Brain the most enjoyable?
